FALCON NEWS

Exploring Falcons are very excited at the moment as they have confirmed the booking of their flights with SriLankan Airlines.

SriLankan Airlines have been very good to us, they have been kind enough to agree to support the expedition but giving us special discounts on all of our flights.

This discount is a fantistic form of sponsorship from Sr Lankan Airlines and we are very pleased to be flying with them.

A big thanks to SirLankan Airlines from all of us here.

The squadron has begun to embark on its Sri Lanka Team training with a day at the Obstacle Course.

Obstacle courses are an excellent way to build teamwork while at the same time working on strength, technique, endurance and stamina. Cadets had excellent weather for the days’ exercise at Brunswick Training Camp and were able to tackle all of the obstacles available to them.

The camp was organised by expedition Leader Flt Lt Tony Piedade RAFVR(T) who commented “Brunswick Training Camp is an Army base and cadets went over the same obstacle course as that of the regular army recruits. It’s a challenging course which lends itself not only to those with brute strength, but also to those that can stand back, pace themselves and tackle the obstacles with confidence. The squadron will continue to run a series of these training days with the aim of building teamwork, I consider this to be invaluable training and cadets can get a lot out of it”.

Councillor Minnie Scott Russell the Mayor of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham invited the squadron to help at her recent reception attended by 150 people from the local business community. As part of the working relationship the squadron was able to promote our Sri Lanka Expedition to the guests, all of whom were very supportive.

The evening was a great experience for both staff and cadets. Our cadets were finally out on show, contributing to the local community but more importantly raising our own profile as well as that of the Air Training Corps.

The squadron was able to foster closer working relationship with the borough and local businesses and very much looks forward to a continued relationship.

The Air Cadet Organisation has a thorough and lengthy process
which units have to go through in order to get approval for their
expeditions. This is in place to ensure there is a balanced and sensible
programme in place and to ensure that the Expedition team has the suitable
experience to lead such an expedition. We are pleased to report that Head
Quarters Air Cadets has approved our expedition.
